If
you have the urge to helicopter off to the Bahamas
for dinner, want to find that perfect piece of
land for your next shopping mall or even make
sure you're covered by a fully staffed water rescue
crew, get in touch with Diane Barrington.
Four
years ago, the Canadian native, who now makes
her home in the Miami area, noticed a need for
coordinating the helicopters and crews at an offshore
racing event and decided to single-handedly fill
that void.
Now,
she's the most active helicopter broker in the
United States, even arranging the nine helicopters
and one manatee-spotting plane flying above the
APBA Offshore racers today.
Barrington
brokers helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for
just about every purpose throughout the world.
Out of chaos came order and a business
that just took off.

''Blade
Babe' books Choppers
By Betsy Clayton
FORT
MYERS BEACH Her name is Blade Babe and
choppers are her business.
Actually,
her name is Diane Barrington and she's a helicopter
broker.
The
Miami businesswoman travels to each American Power
Boat Association-sanctioned event on the national
tour and coordinates the helicopters needed.
The
Hooters Offshore Grand Prix on Sunday had 15 choppers
hovering above the second race of the day. Seven
were for photographers, seven for rescue crews
and another one was to entertain the crowd.
Barrington
started arranging helicopters at races three years
ago. No one seemed to remember her name, so racers
nicknamed her Blade Babe.
When
she got business cards for Heli Broker Inc, the
name went here.
"Everyone
knew me that way." Said Barrington, who wears
miniature silver helicopters on her ears while
another one flies from a silver chain around her
neck.
Even
her white T-shirt has Blade Babe printed on it.
When
racer teams and the APBA need to request helicopters
for their events, they sometimes contact her through
her Web site.
The address? You guessed it www.bladebabe.com.
